Information and documentation center


The Information and documentation center (CID) has as its specific objective to assist the members and scientific and administrative personnel of the Humboldt Institute, as well as the users of its services, in the planning, research and realization of projects on conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in Colombia; through the locating, acquiring, analyzing and divulging of relevant information.

The Humboldt Institute’s CID offers different products and information services on Colombian biodiversity, as part of the strategy of the Communication and Information Program.

PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

1.  Access to data bases:

A data base has been developed to integrate the collection of documentaries and facilitate the use of information. It is also possible to access other data bases.

2.  Reference service:

Fast and effective service for the user which involves assistance in library searches, direction on the location of materials location, management of sources and facilitation of contact with other information units.

3.  Access to source documents:

Access to documentary material through the following methods:

  1. Providing reference only materials
  2. Lending of materials
  3. Electronic location of information
  4. Book and document exchange

4.  Selective divulging of information

This allows the user to periodically receive information on the latest documents produced in his area of interest.

5.  Photocopying services

Service of copying documents of broad circulation

COLLECTION

The Information and Documentation Center of the Humboldt Institute has materials and research, printed and in electronic form, in the following 7 sub-collections:

  1. Articles: Includes 500 photocopies of articles and parts of books
  2. Audiovisuals: Currently includes 45 videos, cassettes and CD ROMs on biodiversity
  3. General: Currently includes 900 books, dissertations and non conventional literature
  4. I.A.V.H.: This collection contains all the bibliographic material produced by the Institute as a result of its work
  5. Maps: Includes geo-physic maps of different regions in Colombia
  6. Newspapers: This is a systematic compilation of newspaper articles from the main daily publications in the country.
  7. Serial publications: Currently Includes issues from 250 selected titles.
